How to re-ignite your Spark after a Break from Business
What to do when your business feels blah?
If you've taken a long holiday, had a maternity leave, or you've dedicated time to a side gig that's kept you away from your work, taking long breaks can sometimes cause you to feel disconnected from your business.
Getting back to the nitty-gritty can indeed be challenging : maybe you've lost momentum, motivation, energy, or you believe that you lack discipline and determination when in fact it's the fears and self-doubts that have crawled back into your mind, preventing you from doing "the thing" that actually matters.
You know, when instead of writing your e-mail campaign to promote your wonderful program, you start re-designing your website "real quick".
The reason for this is quite simple.
When you take a step back from the fast-flowing stream, it's hard to remember that you can actually swim.
What to do
Step 1 - Instead of forcing yourself to go through the motions as if nothing had happened, start by acknowledging that it's been challenging and it's ok. There's nothing wrong with you.
Step 2 - Reconnect to your business mission. When you started your business project, you committed to making this world a better place through your specific work.
What was it?
If you've recently done the soul-searching work of defining your mission statement, go back to your notes. Notice how you feel inside your body: Does it make you vibrate? Is it still aligned to what you deeply care about?
If you haven't done that mission statement yet, or if it doesn't make you vibrate anymore, it's time. What do you truly care about, that is about you but is also much bigger than you? How do you want to make this world a better place?
This is something that I LOVE helping my clients with because I can literally see the fire in their eyes once they have defined what it is they truly care about - to the point of making it their life work.
It's an essential part of your branding strategy and development: when you become able to express not only what you do, but why you do it, and why you care about it, you turn your biz into a powerful magnet that your target audience will identify with.
I'll talk more in details about this in the webinar The 6 Keys to your Aligned & Thriving Teaching Biz!
Step 3 - Reconnect to your power.
Often when doubts appear and anxiety shows up, we feel powerless.
Your inner thoughts may go to an imaginary place where your colleagues are doing so much better than you, you'll never have a break-through and you'll be stuck with working in the shadows whilst the rest of the world won't even notice how great you could be. If only you had more money, then you'd be able to hire help, have a killer website, buy that course on how to be good at what you're alreaedy an expert in,...
You're giving away your power to the outsisde circumstances, and it's poopy-chicken.
YOU are the one who can make things better. YOU are the one with the POWER.
Yes, there's a learning curve. Yes, you actually gotta do the work. Yes, it's challenging, especially if you're dealing with anxiety, childhood wounds, trauma, etc.
But you CAN. Otherwise you wouldn't even be here.
So if you've recently felt disconnected from your power, here's a simple exercice:
Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and think about one of the most difficult thing you've done in your life. What was the situation like?
How were you able to survive? What are the qualities within you that helped you withstand the tempest?
These qualities are still here with you today. They are part of your personal resources, and you can use them any time.
Now get up, and go do the work.
I don't care how slow you're progressing, I don't care that your circumstances are challenging. Work around them. Find a way that helps you stay sane, and strongly, proudly Get up and Do the Work.
The world needs you.
